Willow Glen Farmers’ Market
A non-profit serving the Bay Area since 1997, Urban Village Farmers’ Market Association has ten certified market locations around Silicon Valley, each designed to appeal to the community it serves. Their mission is to “help build healthy communities by fostering direct economic and social ties between local producers and consumers.” Urban Village is the company behind the Willow Glen Farmers’ Market held every Saturday.
Urban Village understands that “Farmer’s Markets are living, evolving creatures. Each one responds, adapts, and grows to meet the needs and desires of the unique and loyal community it serves.” With their recent acquisition of overseeing operations of the Willow Glen Farmers’ Market, the company decided to relocate from the streets of downtown to Willow Glen Elementary School on Lincoln Avenue. Still within strolling distance of downtown retailers, boutiques, coffeeshops, and restaurants, the market also offers plentiful free parking and a playground to entertain the kids.
A weekend staple in Willow Glen for over 15 years, the Farmers’ Markets’ “opening day” is tomorrow, Saturday June 8th from 9am to 1pm. A place to connect with local growers to purchase nutritious, fresh-from-the-farm produce, enjoy baked goods, eggs, meats and more from a variety of local vendors, and sample a variety of savory and sweet prepared foods. The market is a community destination where neighbors gather to meet friends, enjoy live music, and catch up over a cup of coffee.
Says Urban Village Market Manager Andréa Pinal-Boca, “Every week you will find live music, coffee, artisanal baked goods, local artist wares, and of course California-grown fresh produce, flowers, honey, dairy, fish, and meats of the highest quality. We often have face painters that come through and market basket raffles as well.”
Running June through October, the Willow Glen Farmers’ Market is a bustling outdoor bizarre of sorts that encourages weekly family outings, healthy eating, and a sense of community. Urban Villages says of its markets, “Shopping at your local Farmers’ Market is a healthy and enjoyable way to spend your morning. You get outside in the fresh air, rain and shine. You and your kids are not tempted by all the highly processed and nutrient “enhanced” foods that is stocked in Grocery Stores. By default a Farmer’s Market helps guide you to eat only the most seasonally fresh, whole, nutrient-rich foods that are available at any given time in California, since nothing at a Farmers’ Market is ever industrialized or shipped from far away.”
With a warm summer weekend ahead, we encourage you to join in on the bounty of food and community offered at the Willow Glen Farmers’ Market each Saturday from 9am to 1pm.
