Top Luxury Home Trends for 2016: Part 1
As we look back at 2016, we see luxury home trends that continue to withstand the test of time and others that are becoming more popular. Discerning homeowners in Los Gatos, Palo Alto and throughout the Silicon Valley want their residences to transcend simple functionality, embodying elegance, style and refinement as well as offer a place to entertain and unwind.
Below are five of the ten luxury home trends from 2016 that exemplify the modern sophistication today’s savvy homeowners desire.
1. Modern Farmhouse
This style of décor melds the modern and fresh with the traditional and rustic. There are a variety of ways to incorporate this trend in your home including the use of shiplap, exposed brick, woods in broad tonal shifts, mixed metals, bench seating and barn doors complete with rustic hardware. Crisp neutral color palettes and simple furnishings add in the modern touch.
2. White Kitchens
White kitchens continue to remain a classic choice for luxury homes in Los Gatos, Palo Alto and throughout Silicon Valley. Anything but boring, they work well with all styles of design and are crisp, clean and timeless. An ideal backdrop for bursts of color and statement lighting, the white kitchen continues to hold its own as an enduring luxury home trend.
3. Luxury Bathrooms
The bath is transforming into a retreat rather than simply a functional space. Homeowners are creating indulgent bathrooms with radiant heated floors, coffee bars, flat screen televisions, soaking tubs and chromatherapy, the use of color to achieve physical and psychological balance and harmony.
4. His & Hers Dressing Rooms
Far surpassing the once coveted walk-in closet are designated dressing rooms with glamorous amenities and impressive square footage. Many couples are creating ‘his and hers’ dressing rooms designed to meet their individual needs and tastes. Women desire a dressing room that has the ambiance of their favorite designer clothing store with stunningly lit displays of jewelry, shoes, handbags and sunglasses. For men, the closet has become the cutting-edge version of the man cave, with wet bars, office nooks, state-of-the-art electronics and gadgets, and leather couches for watching favorite sporting events.
5. Outdoor Living
The temperate climate in the Silicon Valley encourages the desirability of outdoor living spaces. These exterior areas for dining, entertaining and relaxation have become luxury living necessities rather than trends. Many include fully equipped kitchens, covered areas with fireplaces or other heat sources, comfortable furniture and high tech amenities including WiFi, televisions and sound systems.
This is a two-part series, so look forward to the next blog in November where we will review the final five trends.
