Home Buyer’s Checklist
You’ve made major progress in starting your home search. You have chosen a real estate agent you trust, spoken with your financial team, attained preapproval on a mortgage, and received your preapproval letter. We are now ready to begin your search in earnest!
There is a lot involved in purchasing a home, so having a solid understanding of all the steps involved is extremely beneficial. These include outlining your ideal home criteria, touring properties, understanding the offer and escrow processes, as well as moving preparation, and advice on settling into your new home.
The Dawn Thomas Team has created an informative Buying Process Flowchart that outlines the basics of each phase: from the initial preparation stage to contract and closing, culminating in the move into your new home. It offers a high-level overview of things to do, consider, and of which to be aware.
As we embark on your journey to find your ideal residence, now is the time to get organized. A few things we suggest you do right away include:
- Begin drafting your list of home criteria, prioritizing into ‘needs’ and ‘wants’. This will help Dawn locate properties that will be of interest. (We will discuss these two lists in detail in a later article.)
- Gather proof of funds and submit these documents to Dawn. These will be used when we submit offers.
- This is also a great time to begin drafting your letter to sellers. These letters provide the current homeowners a personal glimpse into you and your family and why you would love to purchase their home. Having something prepared in advance, even a rough draft, will give you a leg up when you are ready to submit an offer. If you need inspiration, let us know and we can provide some great examples.
You can rely on The Dawn Thomas Team to guide you through each step of the journey, answering questions, keeping you updated, and ensuring everything goes as smoothly as possible.
