The 24 square miles defining the city of Sunnyvale is home to approximately 150,000 Bay Area residents. The 70-acre Baylands Park offers paths, picnic areas, and active recreation opportunities including the Discovery playground, a favorite among children and their parents.   In keeping with its naturalist theme, the park embraces native grasses, open meadows, and an additional 150-acres of seasonal wetlands. One of the most popular, Washington Park was constructed in 1945 near historic downtown. Its 12 acres are well shaded and offer picnic facilities, a swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, and a playground. On the opposite end of the park, spectrum is Full Circle Farm, the largest sustainable community garden in Silicon Valley. The city also boasts access to the San Francisco Bay Trail via its Moffett Connector trailhead as well as 27 holes of golf at its two picturesque courses.

Top employers such as Juniper Networks, AMD, and Yahoo are headquartered in Sunnyvale and several aerospace companies, including Lockheed Martin and Honeywell, have facilities within its borders. The city is also home to Onizuka Air Force Station, the principal artificial satellite control facility for the Armed Forces until August 2010. It’s the main building, known as the Blue Cube, is the base’s most distinctive feature.

Arts and culture are promoted through the city’s annual Art & Wine Festival, Hands-on Arts program, and summer music series. Sunnyvale also offers a variety of shopping and dining opportunities.
