Slide the City

Just about everyone of us has launched ourselves down a Slip n’ Slide as a child. One of the most iconic ways to pass the time during the summer, it was classic backyard entertainment for those of us without access to a swimming pool.

You often see teens and twenty-somethings creating their own make-shift versions of this traditional waterslide using tarps and garbage bags, proving that this is truly an ageless way to have a blast during the warmer months.

Slide the City has taken the slip and slide to an entirely new level, traveling the country with a 1,000 foot vinyl slide that they install in the middle of streets in cities across the United States. In addition to the family-friendly slippery attraction, there will be food and live music all along the slide route, making for one wet and wild way to spend a summer day.

Slide The City will be slipping and sliding their way to both San Francisco and San Jose this summer. Slide the City San Jose will be held in June 2015 along East Santa Clara Street and you can ride the slide down Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco in July. Exact dates are still to be determined.

Registration is required to be able to ride the water slide, which is the length of three football fields. Attendees can choose from a Single, Triple or VIP Slider pass. All slide riders must be at least 46 inches or 5 years old and everyone who slides must sign a waiver. Though the slide is well-padded on the sides and underneath, all who slide must have an inflatable tube to help propel themselves safely down the entire length of the slide. Depending upon the type of ticket purchased, you may have to bring your own inflatable tube or, if you choose to be a VIP Slider, one will be included with your ticket price. Everyone is welcome to attend the event, enjoying the music, food and watching kids of all ages as they blast-off down the colorful vinyl slide.

The slide opens for Single and Triple Slider tickets holders from noon to 5pm, while VIP Sliders can also slide from 11am to 12 noon and 5 to 6pm. Everyone is encouraged to bring water soakers and engage in friendly water fights to keep cool.

Slide the City is always looking for local volunteers to help with set-up, participant check-in and slide disassembly.

Tickets range in price from $15 for early-bird registration for a single slider, $30 for a Triple and $50 for the VIP Slider. Ticket prices increase as the event gets closer and can be purchased at the event. All Slider ticket holders receive a swag bag filled with a variety of goodies.

So if the idea of a giant water rave on a 1,000 foot slip and slide sounds up your alley, keep your eyes open for the San Francisco and San Jose Slide The City events. Tickets should go on sale within the next few months, giving you enough time to perfect your sliding form.
