Los Altos Peninsula Symphony

An icon of talent, music and culture, the Los Altos Peninsula Symphony is a compilation of the Silicon Valley’s premiere musicians, promoting an appreciation of live music throughout the Bay Area.

A principle musical inspiration since 1949 when the Sequoia and Peninsula Symphonies teamed with Russian-born violinist and conductor, Aaron Stein, the Peninsula Symphony offers innovative live concerts as well as promotes music education via engaging programs for both children and adults in the Los Altos community and throughout the Silicon Valley.

The symphony’s current music director and conductor is Mitchell Sardou Klein, the driving force behind the symphony’s growth from a small, grassroots ensemble to a 90+ member orchestra of trained community musicians. During his 31-year tenure, the Peninsula Symphony also expanded its concert offerings to include collaborative concerts at Stanford University, Family concerts and free open-air Summer concerts.

The Bridges to Music educational outreach is one of the symphony’s trademark programs that includes:

  • School assemblies
  • Youth competitions
  • High school masters classes
  • Free concerts
  • Open rehearsals
  • Music in the community

The focus of Bridge to Music is to introduce the love and appreciation of live music to schools, libraries, senior facilities and both public and private events.

The Peninsula Symphony’s 68th 2016-2017 concert season offers diversity with solo performances the likes of pianist Conrad Tao and trumpet player, Mary Elizabeth Bowden and ensemble blues and jazz concerts by the Saint Michael Trio. The symphony’s Fortissima, the hallmark four concerts held each season in November, January, March and May, will feature the musical works of living American female composers.

The Peninsula Symphony plays throughout the Silicon Valley at a number of venues including:

  • San Mateo Performing Arts Center
  • Flint Center for the Performing Arts in Cupertino
  • Bing Concert Hall at Stanford University
  • Tateuchi Hall at the Community School of Music and Arts in Mountain View
