Big Basin Burger Bar
The hamburger was first introduced in the late 19th or early 20th century and has become a gastronomic icon in the United States. Just off highway 9 at the entrance to downtown Saratoga is Big Basin Burger Bar, serving epicurean burgers created with the freshest ingredients. Its casual atmosphere offers a fun, low-key culinary alternative to the majority of fine dining experiences offered along Saratoga’s Big Basin Way.
Previously called the Village Burger Bar, Big Basin Burger Bar opened in February 2015 with a focus on garden-fresh, gourmet ingredients, grass-fed beef and friendly service. You’ll often find cyclists gathering here after an arduous ride down highway 9 as well as families with kids of all ages and groups of friends grabbing a bite and a beer while watching the game.
Located in one of Saratoga’s many historic buildings, Big Basin Burger offers a diverse menu sure to appeal to carnivores and vegetarians alike. Their signature burger menu includes everything from The Wild Thing bison burger, grilled chicken Caprese Sandwich, Ahi tuna burger, vegan burger and Gal-bi short rib sandwich. They also serve a variety of burger concoctions made from 100% grass-fed beef including their French Moo with pancetta and brie, Peppercorn burger with sautéed mushrooms and Swiss and the Topped Blue Cheese Burger with applewood smoked bacon.
If none of the signature burger options appeal, you can also build your own. Choose from ten different types of proteins, meats and cheeses as well as an impressive list of toppings, sauces and buns. Mix, match and make it your own.
Big Basin Burger also has a great kids menu, gourmet salads, appetizers and sides including, of course, French fries (regular and sweet potato) and onion rings. For those with a sweet tooth, their Big Basin milk shakes are made to order. The Monkey Biz milk shake blends vanilla ice cream, bananas, Nutella, chocolate syrup and almonds while the Berry Berry Bad uses vanilla ice cream, cheesecake, mixed berries and strawberry sauce. There is also a S’More and a Mud Slide milk shake.
For those looking for a more adult beverage, Big Basin Burger Bar has an extensive craft beer menu featuring rare and innovative ales as well as a by-the-glass wine selection. Many locals can be found enjoying a burger and beer at the long bar while catching the Warriors or Giants games on TV.
A great casual dining option, Big Basin Burger Bar is open daily at 11am and offers a unique and delicious menu in a bustling, vibrant atmosphere set in the heart of Saratoga’s historic downtown district.
