AT&T Pebble Beach PRO-AM
Teeing off only 80 miles from Sunnyvale, the AT&T Pebble Beach PRO-AM is by far one of the most anticipated and renowned events on the PGA Tour. Held annually on three premiere golf courses on the Monterey Bay Peninsula, this year’s event will pair 156 professionals with 156 sports and show business celebrities. Whether you’re a golf aficionado or would love the chance to see some of your favorite personalities up close and personal, the AT&T Pebble Beach PRO-AM is the place to be.
A blend of social soirée and sporting event, the PRO-AM attracts over 150,000 spectators as well as millions worldwide who watch the six-day event on television. Bing Crosby is credited with conceiving the first tournament when he invited friends to 18 holes of golf in Rancho Santa Fe in 1937. The missions of Crosby’s inaugural tournament and clam bake was to raise money for charity. The tournament moved from Southern to Northern California’s Monterey Peninsula in 1947, but throughout it’s storied history, the AT&T Pebble Beach PRO-AM continued to attract the world’s preeminent golfers, many A-list celebs and always seems to offer up weather obstacles that make for a noteworthy event. To this day, Crosby’s mission to incorporate golf, celebrities and the goal to help worthy causes continues as does the tournament’s unique traditions.
Celebrating its 79th year, the 2016 PRO-AM will be played on Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill Golf Course, and Monterey Peninsula Country Club Shore from February 8th through the 14th. The top pros competing for the $7 million purse include defending champion Brandy Snedeker, Jason Day, Jordan Speith and Phil Mickelson. They along with the other pros will be matched with celebrities such as Wayne Gretsky, Carson Daly, Mark Wahlberg, Steve Young and Chris O’Donnell. The list of pros and celebrities is impressive and will continue to be updated over the coming weeks.
The non-profit Monterey Peninsula Foundation once again plays host to the AT&T Pebble Beach PRO-AM, one of its primary fundraising events. In 2014-2015, the Foundation distributed $9.1 million to a variety of organizations and programs that focus on arts & culture, community & environment, youth & education and health & human services.
