“A unique universe of passionately swinging and deeply lyrical hard bop, blues, and ballads.” —The Jazz Police.
Vibraphonist and NEA Master Bobby Hutcherson was a huge part of the post-bop sound of the ’60s, recording seminal albums with Jackie McLean, Eric Dolphy, Joe Henderson, and McCoy Tyner, as well as his own brilliant records on Blue Note. Organist Joey DeFrancesco rocketed to fame as a teenager on Miles Davis’ Amandla in the late ’80s, and soon established himself as the best jazz organist in the world —a title his best friend, the late Jimmy Smith reluctantly bestowed upon him. Though of two generations, these two virtuosos have never stopped reaching for new sounds, and in recent years they’ve found soul mates in each other, recording and performing frequently. Joey’s trio is completed by guitarist Paul Bollenback and drummer and SJW alum Jaz Sawyer.
