Celebrate the Winter Solstice today. Today is the shortest day of the year – with the longest night. A few children, though, will claim that the longest night is coming on Friday!
This year’s Winter Solstice is special. It started this morning with a Full Moon and a Lunar Eclipse – enabling an otherwise too faint Ursids Meteor Shower to be visible. This is the first time since 1378 when a Lunar eclipse has fallen on a Winter Solstice. Imagine how much the world has changed since then!
Unfortunately, Silicon Valley weather hasn’t cooperated with our viewing of these celestial events – so how to celebrate the Winter Solstice? Light a candle, build a fire in the fireplace, have dinner with friends, and go to bed early! The days will start getting longer tomorrow!
